Hey, wazzup people of Malaysia! It's your favorite funny guy here to tell you a story about something that will surely tickle your funny bone. Okay, so here's the deal, I stumbled upon this picture of a letter the other day and it was hilarious!
The letter was titled "Contoh Surat Wakil LHDN" and boy, oh boy, was it a sight to see! The letter was all in Bahasa Malaysia, but even if you don't understand the language, you could tell that whoever wrote this letter had a great sense of humor.
The picture showed that the letter's URL was from Scribdassets and when I checked out the content format, it was given in HTML. Oh dear, it sounds really techy but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it's really just a piece of cake.
Okay, so let's get back to the letter. When we translate it into English, it turns out to be "Sample Letter Representative of LHDN". Now, I know what y'all are thinking, "What in the world is LHDN?" Well, folks, it's an acronym given to the Malaysian Internal Revenue Board, better known as the "Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri".
Now that we know what LHDN is, let's get back to the letter. The writer goes on to explain the importance of the letter and the consequences of not heeding the advice given. But what got me rolling on the floor laughing was the writer's choice of words. I mean, where did he/she come up with these words?
Whoever wrote this letter must have had a PhD in Creative Writing because that letter was anything but ordinary. Sample this line: "Jika pemilik akaun / pengguna layak tidak mematuhi arahan daripada pihak LHDNM, akaun / pengguna yang layak tidak dibenarkan untuk membuat permohonan untuk semakan kelayakan dalam sistem percukaian". Sounds awfully technical doesn't it? But wait, there's more.
One of my favorite lines in the letter is "Kegagalan untuk memenuhi permintaan ini akan dianggap sebagai pengabaian yang merugikan". Now, that's the kind of sentence that will make you go "Whoa, hold up there, Shakespeare!"
